How Often Should You Oil Your Hair? A Simple Guide

Oiling frequency depends more on your scalp than on the calendar. An oily scalp usually does well with lighter, less frequent application, while a dry or flaky scalp often benefits from more regular oiling.

A common starting point is two to three times a week, applied a few hours (or the night) before washing, so the oil has time to sit without leaving hair looking weighed down for days.

Climate and season matter too — humid weather can make more frequent oiling feel heavy, while dry winter air often calls for it more often.

The simplest approach is to start with a modest routine, pay attention to how your scalp and hair respond over a few weeks, and adjust from there rather than following a fixed number.
